How about the Three Musketeers? Huey, Dewey, and Louie (from Disney), Sora, Donald and Goofy from Kingdom Hearts? The Three Amigos! Salt and Pepper and Cumin
Never mind ideal, 3 seems like a minimum to me. Fighter, healer, thief. Without at least three you are going to give up something in one of those three classic archetypes.

Aren’t most of the Potter books filled with the group being broken up? Ron and Hermione are always fighting and leaving the ‘trio’. And then how often does Harry have to do something on his own? Sorry O, but they aren’t really the steadfast trio you were looking for.
