Continuing with the process of redesigning the comic characters, I moved on to Elf and Weretiger. Both of them were considerably simpler than Dwarf because they don’t actually use armor like he does, so the functionality of the suits are easier to handle. This time it was more an issue of selecting color schemes.

In the past, Elf had always worn long sleeves and gloves on both arms, and every time he did magic I liked to tear the cloth on his left arm because of the energy from the curse caused by the magic glove (which is no longer visible on him). This time I wanted to get rid of that and instead give him an much more interesting way of covering his skeletal arm, so I decided to make him wear a half-cape.
For the rest of his clothing I went with a design that looked a bit more modern, inspired a bit in pirates and swashbucklers, which is a lot more like the original design Carlos had when he created the character in the actual game. The first color scheme is probably the one that is closest to the way Elf has looked before, with purple and blue and adding the red that the latest design had. The second looks a lot more classic and conservative, and I like it a lot. The last one makes me feel like he has electric-based powers, for some reason.

In terms of clothing, Weretiger is the simplest of all the three characters, something that makes his color scheme all that more difficult to choose. On the other hand, Weretiger is yellow, making the colors you can use a bit more limited.
I like the third and fourth ones, with darker clothes underneath and a brighter color for the jacket. But I also like the fifth with a darker jacket. In any case, I feel like I should avoid green with this one because Dwarf already has green, and I want each character to have his own distinctive colors. Dwarf would be red and green, Elf could be blue and purple and Weretiger could be red and brown.
Still, I’m not entirely decided on these colors, so I’d really appreciate some opinions here.

Weretiger seems to look pretty good in the 4th scheme. I agree with you on avoiding using green since it’s already being used.
Elf also looks like he could go evil NPC at any moment
Weretiger is definitely an Autumn. Go with the red/brown. Looks smashing on him.
“The last one makes me feel like he has electric-based powers, for some reason.” HAHA! Our generation will never truly leave the 8 bit world! Final Fantasy tought us that the color of a magic user’s clothing directly related to the power the wielder used. And we all know the original FFs are canon for how a magical world should be. hehe. And for those sticklers who are hating on 8-bit, think Red Wizards of Thay, and you end up saying “Red = fire magic”
I also love how Elf’s outfit reminds me of Auron (FFX) a little, but not enough to go “bleh! It’s been done” Very cool. Was Auron an inspiration? My Elf vote is #3, because I love me some 8-bit reference
When I was looking over Weretiger’s outfits I suddenly realized, throughout my high school gaming career, we never had male furries…. We had male gnomes and dwarfs, and one male lycan(though technically he was a cohort…. But he was my cohort, so he counts XD) and a pretty decent number of female furries, but no males. My Weretiger vote is #5, because I like the idea of the colorful race choosing muted colors for the outfit.
And thank you for making these the right shape, if not slightly small, for wallpapers.
Elf: third one. Makes him look like he does not really belong to the world he lives in.
Weretiger: fifth (the one without green and red) becauese that will blend into shadows and the like most (and will make him look a little bit ‘mysterious’)
Der Mor
I say go with the second for both. The paler colors on Weretiger still allows for the distinctive coloring you want.
I’m not really one to go for design and shape, since I can’t draw for the life of me. When it comes to colours, though, I know what I like to see. It’s the sole reason I can paint Warhammer miniatures to a standard that even experienced painters can respect. But that’s another kettle of mackerel.
As for the Elf Mage, I would mix in the elements of what he has become: Being a mage, he has dabbled in arcane while not really touching on any other element apart from Fire (I can’t remember him casting anything other than Fireballs and Magic Missiles) so a natural blend of purple and red (with perhaps hints of orange thrown in for lining) would fit well there, a lot like the central colour scheme you have there in fact. The cape, though, I would give off the visual hint that he is succumbing to a rather destructive nature from the cursed glove, and give that a really deep, black-heavy red, like a dark crimson colour to it as opposed to the brighter hues elsewhere on him.
As for the Weretiger Hunter/(rogue?) the third colour scheme stands out for me more than any of the others. They are, after all, not designed for open combat, and are more appropriate when working with stealth and agility. Natural animal tendencies can cover agility (unlike the poor guy playing him) and stealth and blending in would be helped along with rather neutral, earthen browns. I would consider using the green even though you’ve used it already, as it relates a lot to the feel of the outfit itself. I’m thinking possibly the sixth image, but reversed in colour there, but otherwise I’d go for the third.
Anyways, don’t want to tell you how to do your work when I can’t even match your Bunnybacon standards.
I am a total sucker for wine reds and purples, so I’m DEFINITELY going with the second one for elf, hands down. If you were going for a change the first one is too close to the old one, and the last one . I dunno, it’s too bright, the colors are almost girly. The middle one looks very refined and mysterious. Sort of steam punky colors.
For Weretiger, I say the third one. It looks the most ninja-y and Weretiger is supposed to be sort of sneaky and uses Thrown a lot, right? The fourth one kind of makes him look like robin hood, and the colors green and yellow are a bit too close to each other int he rainbow to contrast. Yellow and red are both warm colors but there’s enough of a difference to stand out. Plus, like you said, you already have a green character and each of them having their own colors is probably best.
I think Elf should be design 2. I really like it.
Not so sure on Weretiger. kind of leaning to 5.
I’d go with the fifth idea for Weretiger. I think it fits him really well.
For Elf? Hm… Number 2 I think. I’m not a big fan of any of em. I think its the lines that throw it off. They’re so different from the base color that it throws it off. Maybe mute the lines a little?
I note the one constant for weretiger is the brown in his accessories. Naturally I want to break that commonality up.
Riffing off of Keith, take the Red/black (or green black) and try switching the brown and the black. It preserves the contrasts you’re looking for and I think the brown goes better with the red or green than the black.
The things you learn playing City of Heroes…
i love the red/brown on weretiger. perfect! and i like the third set of colors on the elf, because, well, he reminds me of carl thonius from dan abnett’s ravenor books: fancy dresser, always superbly turned out, not afraid of color and opulence, a bit(!) vain, tougher than anyone expects…. until he mutates into a slavering warp daemon, that is! lol
Definately the fifth one for weretiger, taking into consideration him being a ranger, the shadowy yet natural colours in the fifth one would be great, and it will allow you to play with the yellow colour of the weretiger itself, possibly developing the colour of the character itself? Kind of like seasonal changes or something like that such that most hairy-animals do.
I like the third one as well, makes him look a bit piraty though, so I’d rather keep with the fifth.
I just noticed that the tip of weretiger’s tale in the fifth one is grey, as in others it is white. Is this on purpose as an aspect of colouring? Do keep to the white.
I’m sorry to be bombing you with these messages, but I came up with new reasons to go with the fifth one.
As the colouring would otherwise be quite neutral and shadowy, a bright white tail tip might cause some comedic situations in a storyline?
(and it has the most ‘badassery’ imho)
i believe as a ranger it would be best to go with natural colours. red should not be used because of that. Sticking with dark and desaturated colours could do the trick, as well. And I’m wondering: isn’t weretiger’s distinctive colour yellow? the colour of his fur? I’d say that’s what makes him stand out.
3rd scheme for both characters in my opinion, they really stand out from the rest.
I like the 2nd one for Elf, as for some reason it just seems natural. As for Weretiger, I like the 3rd, for the exact opposite reason. The red jacket pops out a bit too much, which makes it seem kind of dorky. All for the dorky looks for Weretiger.
I like the 3rd scheme for elf – it looks less noble and less pirate, it fits well a mage, especially a necromant.
For weretiger I like the most 4th and 6th one – he looks great in green – I would rather change dwarf, but since you want dwarf to be green, orange jacket will do.
Reversable jacket anyone? Hunters should have some concept of matching camo with the terrain. 5, then the piratey 3 if necessary.
I love the first Elf, the Red accent on his sleeve and undershirt/belt sash seems to flow better with the colors and the the undead feel.
I’m conflicted with the second and third Tiger cause I prefer the softer red of the second’s jacket with the darker brown of the thirds pants; but I do prefer the third Tiger’s color scheme.
3rd for Elf. I think that darker clothes combine with his “undead arm”
4th for Weretiger… I just like it :3
sorry, I meant 5th for Weretiger xP
I love the second design on Elf! That one is just plain awesome!
As for Weretiger, I really like the 3rd (red) and the 5th (brown & grey) design is good, although I personally prefer the dark pants and sleeves on him. Don’t like the green ones at all. Maybe you should mess around with his color schemes some more? Maybe some orange? I know he’s yellow and all, but it could work…
3rd for elf it makes him look like an evil necromancer. besides nothing says evil like black and purple. as for were tiger i personaly like the 5th one it looks like he could sneak up on something if he wanted to. the outhers look too bright for me
I like the darker colors on the fourth Weretiger, It brings out his eye-patch which in turn makes him look a little more bad-ass. Something I happen to think he deserves, even if he is the schmuck of the group. As far as Elf goes, I like the second and third the most. The third one definitely has an electric or maybe even icy feel to it.
IMSO I think you should choose 5 the grays and the browns, they give the impression of camouflage and blend well with Weretiger himself as well as possibly supporting his role as a ranger with these earth and wood tones, put him up against some bark and he can disappear.
You also avoid the red and green crossover with Dwarf which you said you were trying to do, and could possible happen with your two favorites, they are my favorites to but for the above reasons and based on your statements I recommend 5
For Elf I like the third color scheme, but I would have liked it more if the light grey and dark grey were switched. I like the 5th one (I seem to be a fan of grey).
My opinions are Elf is the 2nd (It just got my eye the beast, even while I was reading) and Weretiger should be 3rd (same thing as with Elf, It just caught my eye)
I like the second Elf…with the third being an odd second.
Weretiger…I like the third, followed by the fifth.
PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, RECONCIDER.
How about, once on monday, and once on friday. :’(
I think Elf looks a bit funny in both #1 and #3, ’cause of all the pink, purple and light blue, I’d go for the red cape look (#2), but that would mean that Weretiger would have to wear the grey and brown outfit (#5), and I really liked #3…
I’m sure whatever you pick will look good though.
(:
