I cannot lie – there is barely any funny in today’s comic. I mean, it’s not much of a joke to begin with. I confess; I simply drew it because I thought it would be fun to draw.
And it was.
In last Friday’s comic, I spoke of motorcycles, scooters and certain cars, and people made their comments as they do pretty much any other day. But this time, one of those comments caught my attention. A reader by the name of”Dragonsdale” wrote that no vehicle would suffice for him, that all he wanted was a mecha to ride around in. After a comment of agreement from a reader called “Dj”, another one named “Gwynbleidd” commented on what it would be like if everybody rode around in them.
I rad all the comments that ever get posted here on my site, and a lot of times those comments give me ideas and such. Some make me laugh, others make me think. Some I use, some I don’t. But this time, these comments placed an image in my mind, and image that I simply would not be able to get rid of until I just went ahead and drew it.
But I couldn’t just post an image of mechas on a street – that’s not the way I work here. This is a webcomic, and so things must be placed in comic form. No disrespect to web-artists that do so, but I don’t like it when others of my same occupation post random artwork where a webcomic strip is supposed to be. There’s sites, blogs and galleries for that sort of thing. You don’t need to agree with me, of course. And again, I mean no harm to those that do exactly that sort of thing, but I’ve always believed that making things into a comic strip is part of the challenge here. So anyway, I built whatever lame joke I could think of around it and took to drawing the scene you now see in the last panel.
There’s not much more to say, really. I love drawing cities and things filled with detail, so I really enjoyed drawing today’s comic. It also gave me several ideas, and I’ll be posting some wallpapers, prints and maybe even T-Shirts in the next few days. So stay tuned if you liked it.
Good hunting;
O

I see the ninja
its in a window at the end
Actually, there are at least three ninjas
I feel that todays rant is sort of directed at a certain other webcomic artist. Starts with an S, last name Johnson :p
@Jaramide: Actually, no. There’s plenty of webcomic artists that do that, and as a matter-of-fact, I think it could easily be that there’s less of us that don’t do it. So it’s not directed to anyone in particular.
Think of it as smoking. I don’t hate people that smoke, but I don’t smoke myself.
A transportation system based on Mechas and Walkers? The streets would look like a Michael Bay Film, everyone would ignore road signs and traffic lights!
Very cool! I’d love to see a city filled with these.
Which of the mecha in the last panel is yours?
My favorite part about that comic is the mech that O is driving has his bald head and ears. Was that intentional?
And THIS is the tomorrow we all should be working towards! A MECHA FOR EVERYONE!
Actually, there are 4 ninjas.
Nice comic O!
Did anyone else notice Vehicle Voltron hiding on a billboard? Awesome!
you have to put the quote ‘he ran a red light, litterally’ on the t-shirt/wallpaper.
I found four ninjas. Anybody find a fifth?
I can’t help but wonder what the structural damage for the city would be after a week or so of mechas running around, even if they don’t get in a fight.
Oh dear, last weeks must be the last we’ll ever hear about the ‘Raven-Darko-O-and-a-lot-of-zombies-behaving-out-of-character-storyline’.
I mean, it happened every other time and besides O will probably want to cherish the idea of him driving of on a harley with Raven forever….
Mechs are over used in stories they take the show from infantry.
Mechs ARE the infantry of the future.
Future Wars will basically be the same as today, exept everything now done by humans will than be done by humans in giant Mechs. So in the beginning, there will be Mechs with Swords in Armorsuits riding Mechhorses. And later on there will be Mechs in Giant Mech-Tanks, or Mechs flying giant planes. And finally there will be people in Mechs, which will again be in even bigger Mechs.
Four ninjas, ah! ah! ah!
Heck, I think it’s funny. And I want one.
4 Ninjas! What is this? Mecha rush hour in Little Ninja Town?
That’s why you don’t see any sidewalk grocery stands or noodle shops, because to find Little Ninja Town, you first must become ninja, AND as we all know you can’t become ninja. You either are… or your not.
(Obviously since I saw Little Ninja Town, I am)
That might be the fifth ninja in the green mech. Also, the runner is obviously a ninja, no mere mortal could move a mech like that.
i hope u really mean one minut(or strip) and not five weeks like..yknow..usually..
anyhow i still like the comic, but im dying for some comedy on commissionedD:
btw three ninjas
oops make that four^^
Is that a fifth ninja’s head just beside O’s mecha shoulder under the umbrella?
the problem with everyone having mechas that i see, instead of sticking mags on them, they’d all stick rocket launchers and 50 cals………..
I liked the bus and taxi concepts and I think we might have mechas like the green one on a near future! Neat comic, O
What about using Invisible Ink for the ninjas? -.-
4 nijas spoted
Hm, that one guy in the Mecha (down in the middle) kinda looks like Jamie from the Mythbusters. You know, Glasses and Barret.
Haha wicked.. I call dibs on the blue mecha behind the tank :]
And that’s what I was talking about….
I’m curious.. how do they get inside mecha…
Pero deberías estar manejando un Mecha antiguo, y algo destartalado. ‘O porque ahora todos usan mechas de pronto tu también vas a poder costearte uno bueno?
I see four ninja’s Plus the one in the green Mecha. The thing under the umbrella just looks like a chair around the backside of the table.
I love the way that MechWarrior does Mechs and how they are more so just really expensive all terrain weapons platforms. Anime Mechs are way too cheesy to ever be real but I would love to have either type.
I don’t think EVERY comic needs to be funny, though I wouldn’t say that this one is NOT funny. There is plenty of visual humor in the last image and the build up to it is done very well. I like it! I wish more people took their “What if…” ideas and put them into print like this. Whimsical is fun! Good job.
