And so, the COMMISSIONATHLON begins today (around noon)!
We’ll be starting with a fully colored image of the infamous “Gerp & Henry” Warcraft characters, belonging to the ever-smelly Scat Johnson, from ExtraLife. From there, we will move on to a whole month of artwork, carrying us well into the first days of July.
Like I said last Monday, instead of resorting entirely to one-paneled comics and guest strips, I decided to work a lot with penciled artwork so I could continue the storyline I’ve been carrying and still have things look moderately cool (personally, I love the pencil look). Nevertheless, if any webcomic artists out there wish to send in a guest strip, I would be enormously grateful.
For today’s comic I had already been thinking about how I’d get us to where our dates would take place – and since I have actually been fixing up my jeep and it should be prowling the roads again by next week (never did manage to sell it, you see) I thought it’d be a good idea to draw it into the comic again.
This idea blended in with the fact that I’ve been trying out spaec combat simulators on my computer these past few days, looking for a game that can bring me the excitement old Wing Commander used to bring. So far I have been absolutely unsuccessful, finding that most space sims are too slow, dull and needlessly complicated for my tastes.
But still, I love the idea of riding around in space ships and having a million buttons to press and hundreds of monitors to… well… monitor – all the time crammed in some teeny tiny cockpit with just a HUD between me and the vastness of space. So if anybody knows about a good, fun and exciting space combat sim that isn’t old and outated, I’d love to read about it.
Oh well, wish me luck! This is gonna be one interesting month, to say the least.
NOTE: Today’s comic is also a sort of homage to Bill Waterson’s character, Calvin. He does this sort of thing all the time.
